Under 2’s Department

Nothing in the world is more precious to you than your baby. We work with parents to determine the care that you require for your baby whilst they are safely in the care of Kaleidoscope. We work with you to establish routines that suit your baby.

Babies are cared for in our Under 2's room. This room has a cot room within it and the play area is divided for babies and  young toddlers,  providing a warm, friendly, language rich environment for the youngest children to socialise.

We care for babies on a maximum of 1:3 adult:child ratio and 2-3 year olds on a maximum of 1:4 ratio. Our staff team in the under 2’s department are experienced practitioners with knowledge and practical experience of providing a high standard of care and learning activities for this particular age group and are trained in paediatric first aid.

During the 20-24 month stage children are gently introduced to the 2's room with their friendship groups and familiar adults to prepare them for the next stage in their learning and development.

At Kaleidoscope even the youngest babies are introduced to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) where staff focus particular attention to the prime areas of development. These are:

  •  Personal Social and Emotional Development
  •  Physical Development
  •  Communication and Language.

The word “Curriculum” sounds very formal but is simply the framework that early years practitioners use to ensure that a wide range of activities and experiences are offered to ensure that young babies and children have every opportunity to develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually. We place great emphasis on ensuring all children feel secure, happy and settled, having access to caring adults who provide a lovely environment for them to grow.

Outdoors we have an enclosed rubber surface play area with play equipment . The play area is accessed directly from the baby room. The babies and toddlers also spend time in the main nursery gardens.

We welcome parents to visit the nursery and encourage parents whose babies are registered to start with us to come and spend time with staff to get to know everyone before it’s time to go back to work. All of the babies and toddlers have a daily diary so that parents and staff can write down babies routines, details about feeds and sleeps so that we work in partnership to create continuous care that meets each individual childs needs.
